FILE 01 The Legend

New Orleans' Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop (built c.1723) — 'the oldest structure used as a bar in America' — is a surviving French-quarter cottage where the Lafitte brothers are said to have run their smuggling operation as a front. Its ghost file: Jean Lafitte himself at the bar's corner, a woman upstairs, cold spots by the fireplace, and the famous 'ghost photo' era of the 2000s. It is a working bar — the file is served with the drinks.

FILE 02 The Sightings Log

Lafitte's apparition at the corner table; a woman in the upstairs window; the fireplace's cold spot; and lights floating in the empty bar after close, reported by staff across decades. The bar's candle-lit interior — no electric light — guarantees atmospherics.

FILE 03 The Skeptic’s File

The Lafitte smuggling-front story is folklore: no document ties the brothers to this specific cottage — their New Orleans operations were elsewhere. The building's age is real and remarkable. A candle-lit 1723 bar produces ghost reports the way beaches produce sand. The bar's file is folklore served as ambiance — honest in its way, thin in its evidence.
