FILE 01 The Legend

Savannah's oldest hotel (1851) served as a Union hospital during the Civil War occupation; amputations were performed in what are now guest rooms. The hotel's 1999 restoration uncovered remains and Civil War-era medical artifacts. Its reputation as Savannah's most haunted hotel is built on that documented hospital layer — the only Savannah hotel that can point to the exact use of its rooms.

FILE 02 The Sightings Log

Guests report children's laughter in the halls, faucets running on their own, and the sensation of being watched in the Civil War-era rooms. The most common report: a man in a Civil War uniform seen in the third-floor corridor. The hotel leans in, keeping a ghost story card at the front desk.

FILE 03 The Skeptic’s File

The hospital history is documented; the ghosts are hotel marketing done with unusual honesty — the front desk will tell you which rooms get the reports. Savannah's saturated ghost-tour market guarantees every historic hotel has a file. The Marshall House's claim is the strongest in the city on paper (documented hospital use), which is why it holds its reputation despite thin evidence.
